Ingredients
- 1 papaya
- 4 limes
- 2 cups orange juice
- 1 cup honey or sugar add more if desired
Instructions
- Cut your papaya in half lengthwise. Use a spoon to scrape out and discard the dark round seeds. Peel away the tough outer skin using a sharp knife or vegetable peeler, then cut the vibrant orange flesh into cubes.
- Because this recipe makes a large batch, you will blend the fruit in chunks. Add your cubed papaya, 2 cups of orange juice, 1 cup of honey or sugar, and 4 cups of your water into a high-powered blender with 2 cups water, so the blender can easily make a puree. Blend on high for 1 to 2 minutes until completely silky smooth.
- Pour the smooth papaya puree into a large 1-gallon serving pitcher or beverage dispenser. Pour in the remaining 6 cups of cold water and stir vigorously with a long spoon until thoroughly combined.
- Take a quick sip of your agua fresca. Depending on how sweet your fresh papaya was, you can stir in extra honey or sugar if desired.
- Place the pitcher in the refrigerator to chill for at least 1 hour. When ready to serve, give it a good stir (natural fruit pulp will settle slightly over time). Fill tall glasses with lots of ice and pour the refreshing agua fresca right over the top!
